Loanwords often take on various pronunciations, usually corresponding to:

- the original written word pronounced as if it were using Spanish orthography
e.g. [*iceberg*](https://www.rae.es/dpd/iceberg) /iθeˈbeɾɡ/ (Spain)
- an emulation of the original spoken word
e.g. *iceberg* /ˈaisbeɾɡ/ (Lat. Am.)

(or something in-between).

Note the RAE dislikes the use of non-Spanish orthographies (unless [italicised](https://www.rae.es/espanol-al-dia/los-extranjerismos-y-latinismos-crudos-no-adaptados-deben-escribirse-en-cursiva)), and proposes the alternative orthographies [*piyama*](https://www.rae.es/dpd/pijama) and [*violonchelo*](https://www.rae.es/dpd/violonchelo) for the "Latin American" pronunciations.
