Mar 29, 2018 at 18:36 | comment | added | aparente001 | @LisaBeck - Ha ha, no. I did a lot of legal writing when I filed for due process for my son who has Tourette Syndrome (we won on appeal) and I've done a wide variety of translations. Also I did some editing of social sciences journal articles (purely English) -- but that took some extra effort because I have no training in the social sciences. // Would you like to tell me something about yourself? (Optional -- you decide.)
Mar 29, 2018 at 4:33 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @aparente001 What professional editing gigs have you had? You're not a former Rolling Stones editor, are you?
Mar 29, 2018 at 4:31 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @aparente001 ... My style is probably better suited for a blog article rather than a listicle or resource page, so I understand the effect you're going for. Nevertheless, I'm tempted to give you a nickname. The first one that comes to mind is The The Trimmer.
Mar 29, 2018 at 4:29 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @aparente001 Yeah, that's fine about removing the line before the last entry because I've begun sampling that list, and thus far, they seem to be of the "teaching" variety. Initially, I was thinking that it could be an area where people could add Spanish podcast lists made by others, of which there appears to be quite a few. But since I haven't determined whether or not any of these "listicles" are worthy for inclusion here and a single item hardly drives a need for a separate category, no real need for a line of separation. I like your thoughts on editing ...

removed line which didn't seem necessary

Mar 29, 2018 at 1:06 | comment | added | aparente001 | @LisaBeck - (cough) Yes. Also written translations. I was trying for a more succinct presentation; glad you don't mind. // I removed the line before the last entry. If you want to keep it and make a new section, I suggest you insert a section heading. // How about, from here on out, whenever I edit your post, it will go without saying that my edit is just a suggestion, and please go ahead and roll it back if the edit doesn't feel right?

Made some additional, changes to this post to give it more structure/make it more useful to those who visit it.

Mar 28, 2018 at 21:03 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @aparente001 BTW, I like your edits. They clearly tend to lose a lot of my "voice" and style, but you are very, very good at capturing the essence of what I want others to know, so I don't mind at all. Well done. Have you edited professionally in the past?
Mar 28, 2018 at 21:00 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @aparente That's a really good idea. Thanks for suggesting it!
Mar 28, 2018 at 15:51 | comment | added | aparente001 | Lisa, I visited the duolingo link you provided under "Door to Mexico" and read your profile there. I hope you'll include some of that in your SE profile.

Mar 28, 2018 at 3:53 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @aparente Wow. I can see evidence of your trimming. No hard feelings. It looks much more balanced now. Well done.
Mar 28, 2018 at 2:57 | comment | added | aparente001 | @LisaBeck - You're free to mix and match as walen said; most people usually use the method you used in comments (where the other method doesn't work), and the the highlight-and-click method in posts. When I'm editing my own or someone else's post, I find it slightly easier to read when the highlight-and-click method was used.

pruning a long post

Mar 28, 2018 at 2:44 | comment | added | aparente001 | @LisaBeck - Thanks for the additions. To match with the style of the rest of this page I'm doing some trimming. If there's something you feel needs to be restored, though, please do.

Mar 26, 2018 at 22:42 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @fedorqui Thank you for the link. I'll definitely take a look at it. And thanks for adding a section on podcasts. This is a really great resource that I think is sometimes underutilized by beginning learners of Spanish and it's something that could really improve their oral comprehension skills, one of the hardest things to develop while learning a foreign language.
Mar 26, 2018 at 22:40 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | @walen Very interesting. So it would seem that this is then a choice of some convenience rather than a coding protocol that programmers try to adhere to. Let's say it's just easier for a person to do the bracket+parentheses combo. Will there be any problems in a post that contains mixed coding methods?
Mar 26, 2018 at 10:16 | comment | added | fedorqui | Some time ago, in a related question, somebody listed few interesting podcasts. See them in Free online resources for beginner course and feel free to add those you think are good enough :)
Mar 26, 2018 at 7:02 | comment | added | Lisa Beck | I notice that your code is a bit different than what I've previously been using -- [title](url). You use the brackets and then add another set of brackets with a numeral and then add a link at the bottom. I was going to do the same thing, but I kind of see this as a work in progress that's probably still very much in its nascent stages. Doesn't it complicate the process by adding numbering so early on? I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just genuinely curious.
