On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

It feels odd to nominate myself with so little activity on this site, but let me explain. Basically, I see it as an opportunity for me to improve my Spanish, and for the community to benefit from the experience of a ♦ moderator on a couple of other sites in the Stack Exchange network. Since I'm far from the ideal candidate, I've waited until now to nominate; I'm sincerely hoping other better suited users will take the job. If not, you can count on me!

Since a year or so, I'm trying to learn Spanish (mainly because there are a lot of places in South America I want to discover, but it also helps closer to home). Duolingo teaches me a lot, but nothing beats immersion; that's why I'm currently answering questions on Stack Overflow en español, and why I was already planning to become more active here. What held me back so far is that I every time I have a good question, it's already asked and answered here, thanks to you! If I'm not elected, I'm planning to gain some more reputation and become active in the review queues.

(Of course, while I'm still learning Spanish, I'll defer most of the custom flags in Spanish to my colleagues :))

I hereby nominate myself as a candidate for moderator of Spanish Language Stack Exchange.

I have been here only for 10 months, and therefore my "candidate score" below is quite low. The relatively short time and low traffic in the site did not provide enough material for me get those badges.

But Spanish.SE needs more moderators, and I am willing to step up and help keep the site running. As a moderator, I will put the community first and only step in to solve the problems that the community cannot solve by itself with the tools that they have. I will prefer to communicate before taking actions, and listen to everyone when dealing with conflicts.

You can see my review history, my meta posts, and my responses to the candidate questionnaire to get an idea of how my moderation style would look like. I think I am patient, can evaluate situations without getting carried away, and try to make everyone feel welcome.

I hereby present my candidature for the election. I am Charlie, the currently appointed moderator who has been serving the community for the last year.

Reasons to vote me:

  • Patient and fair, and willing to help users to get used to our community.
  • Diversity and inclusion guaranteed.
  • Someone you can always talk to, and I'll not be offended if someone tells me I did something wrong. Moderators are people, not gods.
  • Always willing to find new ways to broaden the scope of the site.
  • Talking is always better than banning.

Reasons not to vote me:

  • Low participation on Meta.
  • Need to improve my capacity of engaging people.

See my questionnaire for the elections answered here.

This election is over.
