@CesarGon "atrapar" is pretty neutral. "El gato atrapó al ratón". Look at buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltConsulta?TIPO_BUS=3&LEMA=atrapar . On the other hand, "pillar" is not used in Mexico for anything.
