@hippietrail There we go. ;) Fixed the question. You are right that the question itself wasn't quite specific enough. When I asked the question, I didn't know the answer enough to ask it correctly. Then I started researching and learned a bunch!

True, the OP did ask about the letter "s" rather than the "s" sound. However, I have a strong suspicion that the sound of the letter "s" is really what he was asking about, given that he used the word "pronounced". Great point, though!

comment How can I know if a word or phrase should be avoided due to regional variations?
As hippitrail mentioned, questions asking for resources (books, websites, guidelines, etc.) aren't constructive for this format. I've attempted to change the title to your second paragraph in order to prevent this from being closed.

@JuanAntonio I think I agree with you. The question isn't well suited. Please vote to close this question as Not Constructive. (It will be useful having it around, closed as Not Constructive, even though it is closed.)

@JonEricson Hey! Yeah, the way it was written made it sound like those were examples. Thanks for pointing that out. I've updated it to make more sense. ;)

Unfortunately, this is an example of a list question. List questions are generally not acceptable, StackExchange-Network wide.

The Real Academia Española recognizes that there are occasions when accents may be omitted. See my answer for more information. (Although I do agree that they are important.)
